When you add a new user account, during initial setup or afterward, Windows 10 creates a user profile folder in C:Users, with your username (or a variation) as the name of the profile folder. It then fills the new profile with default data folders.

For most Windows 10 devices, this is a perfectly acceptable configuration.

In some circumstances, however, it makes sense to move one or more of these subfolders to a new location. If you have a desktop PC with a relatively small solid-state drive as the system drive and a much larger data drive, for example, you can keep a large digital media collection from overwhelming your C: drive by moving the Pictures and Music folders to a separate data drive.

  1. Summary: The free tutorial discusses how to find Scanpst.exe location in Outlook, an Inbox Repair Tool in Windows Outlook 2019, 2016, 2013, 2010, and 2007 versions, as well as run it for the repair of their respective PST file, which is created by default.
  2. Instead, you’ll need to dive briefly into the Windows Registry to change the default location where Outlook stores data files, and then move your existing PST file in File Explorer. Standard warning: Registry Editor is a powerful tool and misusing it can render your system unstable or even inoperable.

This blog explains the default location of your Outlook Archive Folder (OST & PST) on Windows 10, 7, 8, Vista & XP, it also describes the right solution to find your Outlook Archive Folder in Outlook 2016, 2013, 2010 & 2007.

To make the move, open C:Users, double-click your user profile folder, and then right-click any of the default subfolders there and click Properties.

On the Location tab, click Move, and then select the new location for that folder. (If you enter a path that doesn't exist, Windows will offer to create it for you.)

Click OK or Apply and you'll see a prompt asking whether you want to move files from the existing folder to the new location. In general, you should say yes to this request.

Repeat this process for any other folders you want to move.

Note: You might be tempted to try to move the entire user profile folder to a separate drive. That's a bad idea. For the explanation, see 'Don't move your Windows user profiles folder to another drive.'

I'm used to moving .pst files around in computers; usually it's to combine files into a folder that will be backed up.
The process that works well for me is this:
- close Outlook
- move the .pst file
- open Outlook; it will say that it can't find the file and provide an Browse interface.
- browse to the new location of the file and tag it.
- Outlook will say that it needs to be closed and restarted. Do that.
- Now everything is fine.
You may also need to tell Outlook where to store incoming mail by changing the folder so identified.
I did this today on a Windows 10 system using Outlook 2010 and it didn't work.
The message alluded to that the file could not be accessed.

It wasn't possible to change the incoming mail folder at all. It remained unspecified.
I also tried going to Control Panel / Mail to change the DataFile location.
